Every candidate score is calculated transparently in your browser from documented public records.
Each nominee's position on a statement is scored from Strongly Disagree (-2) to Strongly Agree (+2) based on bills signed, legislative votes, lawsuits, campaign platforms, and interviews. For every statement you answer, the closer your choice is to a candidate's documented stance, the higher the agreement score (1 - |yourAnswer - candidateStance| / 4). Issues you mark as "matters a lot to me" count three times (3×). A candidate is only scored on statements where their position is documented, so the number of shared questions appears underneath each percentage.
The interactive percentage matcher scores the Republican and Democratic nominees across the four top statewide races: U.S. Senator (Ken Paxton, James Talarico), Governor (Greg Abbott, Gina Hinojosa), Lieutenant Governor (Dan Patrick, Vikki Goodwin), and Attorney General (Mayes Middleton, Nathan Johnson). In the Candidate Guide section above, we also include sourced issue summaries for Libertarian gubernatorial nominee Pat Dixon and complete ballot rosters (including Libertarian, Green, and declared write-in candidates) for Comptroller, Land Commissioner, Agriculture Commissioner, and Railroad Commissioner.
